Making AT Work...Effective Implementation

This website/document is a guide on how to effectively implement a wide variety of assistive technologies with students with special needs. There are 7 sections pertaining to each important part of the process. The sections are as follows: Gather Relevant Information, Establish IEP Goals, Conduct Assistive Technology Trials, Identify Assistive Technology Solutions, Develop AT Implementation Plan, Adapt Lessons for Technology Integration, and Follow Up and Plan Transition. Within each of those sections, there is an introduction describing the process and the rationale, tools and strategies that could be used, and a case study describing the students who are effectively implementing AT.

I found this guide very useful in answering some of my questions regarding the implementation process of AT. I love that each section has tools and a case study in order for you to better understand that step of the process from a real life perspective.

  1. Lauren,
This is a great use of visual in the blog! I think that this visual is more effective and easier to follow than the description in words available on the website. This flow chart would make a great laminated resource as part of a professional development for teachers. It is easy to follow and also gives a brief description of the step. This is great to ensure every step is followed for a successful implementation of AT! I am glad you also shared this with readers.

    1. Thank you! I often think that visuals are more effective and easier to understand, and as we know with our students they learn in various ways. I love your idea of using it as a laminated resource in professional development. I too like that it is easy to follow and gives a brief description. I am a very visual learner and love charts and lists, so this really caught my attention!
