Choice cards work in a similar way as break cards, but
instead of signally that a student needs a break, a student uses a visual
representation to show a certain choice. For example, a student may use a
choice card to choose a recess activity, like in the picture below.
Choice cards can also be used in many other situations,
such as choosing a snack, like the picture below.
Lauren, I love the idea of choice cards and love the examples you gave in your post. It is a shame that people think that just because a child cannot speak that means he/she cannot make choices. Choice cards are a way to help children communicate that cannot speak and they are also easy to create based on the child's every day activities. I know I tend to speak for my students a lot without realizing it, but now I know great resources available with free choice card templates! Good job blogging!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you, we need to offer students a variety of ways to communicate with us. Choice cards are a great way to do that! I too found great resources to help students become more independent in communication, can't wait to use them!
